C-WORKS “Scope”究極のALL LEATHER N-1 DECK JACKET

C-WORKS “Scope” — The Ultimate ALL LEATHER N-1 DECK JACKET

The N-1 DECK JACKET is one of the most iconic winter outerwear pieces in American casualwear.

Countless brands have reproduced and reinterpreted it over the years, but when I first saw the new C-WORKS “Scope,” my immediate reaction was simple: “I’ve never seen an N-1 like this before.”

The outer shell is horsehide, while the entire interior—from the collar through the body and sleeves—is lined with mouton.

This is not simply an N-1 with its fabric replaced by leather. Rather, it is a complete reinterpretation of the original material expression of the vintage N-1, rebuilt through the leather expertise that the FINE CREEK family of brands has developed over the years.

The outer shell used on vintage N-1 jackets is commonly known as “Jungle Cloth,” a densely woven cotton grosgrain.

Its distinctive ridged texture comes from the difference in yarn thickness between the warp and weft, while its high-density construction provides excellent wind resistance. With wear, it develops unique abrasion, fading, and surface character.

What makes “Scope” especially interesting is that C-WORKS chose to reproduce that Jungle Cloth texture using horsehide.

The main material is 1.1–1.2mm horsehide, embossed at a very fine pitch to create the vertical ridges reminiscent of vintage Jungle Cloth.

The color is, of course, OLIVE, developed with vintage deck jackets in mind.

The full vegetable-tanned horsehide is dyed through the core and heavily infused with oil, giving it a supple, slightly moist hand unlike more conventional horsehide.

Natural oil marks, tonal variation, and unevenness can be seen across the surface.

These are part of the character of genuine leather, and in the case of “Scope,” those irregularities work especially well with the vintage-inspired appearance of the material.

As the jacket is worn, fine creases will form and areas exposed to friction will gradually lose color.

It begins with the visual idea of Jungle Cloth, but over time it will evolve into an aging pattern that only horsehide can produce.

Another element that makes “Scope” so distinctive is the interior.

C-WORKS Scope full sheep mouton lining

A standard N-1 would normally use alpaca or wool pile for the lining.

This jacket, however, uses mouton not only at the collar, but throughout the body and sleeves.

In other words, genuine sheepskin with the wool still attached is used throughout the entire lining.

The wool feels exceptionally smooth to the touch, without the roughness or stiffness that its substantial appearance might suggest.

And above all, it is extremely warm.

Vintage N-1 jackets are already known for their insulation, but the full mouton construction of “Scope” creates a softer, more enveloping warmth around the entire body.

What is also surprising is that, despite the generous use of both horsehide and mouton, the jacket does not feel as heavy as it looks once worn.

It still has the substantial presence expected from a leather jacket, yet the softness of the mouton makes it more comfortable against the body and easier to wear than its visual weight might suggest.

The essential N-1 details are also retained.

Functional details such as the inner ribbed cuffs remain true to the original deck jacket concept, while being naturally integrated into the all-leather construction.

At this point, you might imagine the jacket to be extremely bulky.

On a hanger, it certainly has a strong visual presence.

But once you put it on, the impression changes.

The silhouette retains the American proportions associated with the N-1, while being carefully patterned to follow the body without appearing overly bulky despite the full mouton lining.

The strength of the horsehide and the volume of the mouton create a distinctive three-dimensional look.

From the front, it retains the rugged balance of a classic N-1. From the side, you can see how well the volume of the mouton is controlled within the overall silhouette.

And when the front is opened, the contrast between the OLIVE horsehide and the mouton lining becomes even more striking.

Looking at “Scope,” one thing becomes clear: the basic idea itself might be something others could imagine.

Make an N-1 entirely from leather.
Express Jungle Cloth using horsehide.
Line the entire interior with mouton.

In words, it sounds simple.

But actually turning that concept into a complete, wearable jacket is another matter entirely.

The thickness, firmness, oil content, dyeing, and embossing of the horsehide all have to work together. Then the volume of the mouton must be considered, while still preserving the shape, balance, and comfort expected from an N-1.

Because the FINE CREEK family of brands has worked with horsehide and many other leathers for years, developing a deep understanding of each material’s characteristics, this idea could be brought into production as a finished garment.

This is not simply an N-1 made from expensive materials.

It takes the already-complete form of the vintage N-1 and reinterprets its appeal through an entirely different material: leather.

It also offers a different aging process from an original vintage N-1, while being lighter, warmer, and easier to wear.

The pleasure of a leather jacket.
The warmth of a mouton jacket.
And the rugged appeal of an N-1 DECK JACKET.

All three elements coexist naturally within a single piece.

For anyone who has been wearing American casualwear for years, the N-1 itself is hardly a rare item.

And precisely because it is such a familiar design, the impact of seeing “Scope” for the first time is even greater.

I have never seen an N-1 like this before.

Yet it is not unusual simply for the sake of being different. It delivers genuine winter warmth and comfort, while also offering the long-term aging that makes leather jackets so enjoyable.

Personally, this is the kind of jacket that makes me want to call it the “ultimate N-1.”

We highly recommend seeing it in person, trying it on, and experiencing the texture of the horsehide, the softness of the mouton, and the unique presence of this jacket for yourself.
